The Training and Education Center, also known as the TEC, conducts an average of 18 professional military education courses throughout the year and more than 40 skill enhancement classes in subjects ranging from explosives safety orientation to food services, recruiting, security and expeditionary medical support are held here. The TEC trains and educates more than 4,200 students per year and is the heart of leadership training for the Air National Guard.

McGhee Tyson Airport has 8 major airlines serving 19 non-stop destinations including Las Vegas, Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Orlando, New York, Chicago, Denver and Washington D.C. With more than 120 arrivals and departures each day and more than 4,000 seats available, McGhee Tyson Airport is one of the most convenient and accessible regional airports in the nation.

The Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center welcomed a new commandant during a formal military change of commandant ceremony at Wilson Hall, Feb. 10.

"I am incredibly honored," Chief Master Sgt. Donald E. Felch told an audience of more than 500 guests after he accepted the flag from Col. Bradley N. McRee, commander of The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center.

Felch assumes leadership of the Lankford Center from previous commandant Chief Master Sgt. Deborah F. Davidson, who has served in the position since February 2007, and retired with more than 31 years of service in a ceremony on Feb. 9.

Spruance Hall namesake passes away

Brig. Gen. William W. Spruance, the namesake of The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center's Spruance Hall, passed away, Jan. 15, at the age of 94.

Beginning in 1971 and continuing for more than thirty years, Spruance was a fixture at the TEC, delivering a powerful message on safety to the students who attended officer and enlisted professional military education courses here.

Spruance's entertaining, yet sobering presentation, along with his personal story of surviving a near fatal accident captivated his audiences.

ANG TEC welcomes new commander

The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center welcomed a new commander in a formal military change of command ceremony here, Jan. 14.

"Sir, I assume command," said Col. Bradley N. McRee, the deputy commander of the 245th Civil Engineering Flight of the North Carolina Air National Guard, as he accepted the center's flag of command from Maj. Gen. William H. Etter, the deputy director of the Air National Guard.

As commander, McRee will have overall responsibility for the mission of the Training and Education Center, which is to 'facilitate change through the education and training of military leaders.'

Two recognized with Patriot Award

The commander of The I. G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center presented his Patriot Award to two servicemembers at Spruance Hall here, Nov. 24.

Col. Richard B. Howard presented the award to Master Sgt. Matt Hilborn, broadcast manager for the TEC-TV studios, and Master Sgt. Jason Wolfe, NCOIC of infrastructure management for the communications focal point section, for recognition of their contributions to the center.

Hilborn and Wolfe are among many support personnel at the Training and Education Center whose actions ensure the organization runs smoothly and its mission gets accomplished.

EPME instructor honored on Veteran’s Day

A member of The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center here was recognized by the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council (ETMAC) for outstanding service at the 28th Annual Veteran's Day Awards and Recognition luncheon in Knoxville, Nov. 11.

Master Sgt. Keith M. Cavanaugh, a senior instructor with the Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center, was honored for 'outstanding service to the national defense of our country and to the community in which we live.'
