Naval Station Pascagoula, Mississippi is located on the mainland side of Mississippi Sound in the northeast portion of the Gulf of Mexico. The Port of Pascagoula is an important deep water port in the Gulf region. Naval Station Pascagoula occupies 187 acres of Singing River Island, which is located in the Mississippi Sound at the mouth of the Singing (née Pascagoula) River. In the 2005 BRAC Recommendations, DoD recommended to close the naval station.
