April 10, 1963 - During diving tests, the submarine USS Thresher was lost with all hands (112 crew and 12 civilians) east of Cape Cod, Mass.

April 11, 1970 - Apollo 13, commanded by Navy Capt. James Lovell, Jr., blasted off on a mission to the moon. An explosion on board forced the spacecraft to circle the moon without landing.

April 12, 1911 - Lt. Theodore Ellyson qualified as the first naval aviator.

April 13, 1960 - The Navy's navigation satellite, Transit, was placed into orbit from Cape Canaveral, Fla.

Two Incirlik Airmen graduated from the Air Force Senior NCO Academy March 11, at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Ala.

Senior Master Sgt. Rodney Wilson, the 39th Operations Squadron Air Traffic chief controller, and Master Sgt. Blenda Mease, the 728th Air Mobility Squadron Air Mobility Control Center superintendent, graduated from the seven-week course that is intended to prepare master sergeants and senior master sergeants for the increased leadership and management responsibilities of chief master sergeant.

As a ROTC cadet, Brandon Alford had his first encounter with the serious subject of sexual assault when a friend confided in him about a prior incident. Alford was majoring in meteorology and Chinese, not social work, and he felt helpless not knowing his resources or what to do to be there for his friend.

After going on a long run to clear his head, he sought out any and everything he could do give that friend support during a time of distress. Little did he know that, as a result of his contact with someone who was the victim of such a heinous crime, he would eventually become a full time Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.
