In August 2006 Camp Hialeah closed and preperations were made to transfer ownership of the facility to the Republic of Korea. Camp Hialeah was reportedly named during WWII for the well-known horse racing track. Camp Hialeah was located on the Southern most tip of the Korean peninsula in the port city of Pusan, Korea’s second largest city with a population of 6 million.
